Mangalore, Oct 9, 2013: Irate public thrashed five men who were allegedly smuggling cattle in a lorry, near Kudupu Temple on October 9, Wednesday. The incident took place when the speeding lorry fled the place after knocking down a bike rider and seriously injured him.
The public chased the lorry and intercepted it and brutally thrashed the five men inside the vehicle.Three of them have been identified as Sameer, Haneef and Abdul Rehman. The condition of one of them is said to be critical.The injured bike rider too has been hospitalized.
Public found as many as 20 cattle crammed in the lorry. It is learnt the cattle were smuggled from North Karnataka region in the lorry bearing Udupi registration number.
Eyewitnesses said as the public chased the lorry, its driver lost control over the vehicle which went off the road.
Kankanady rural police have registered a case.
