Criticizing the chief minister, who not only refused to resign, but also called for a Karnataka bundh in protest against the governor’s sanctioning of investigations into his corrupt activities, the protestors also criticized the BJP for supporting a corrupt chief minister in spite of his involvement in various land scams.

In his protest speech, DK District Secretary of CPI (M) B. Madhava said that Yeddyurappa is an undemocratic dictator and labeled the state-wide bundh on Saturday, which resulted in financial loss worth crores, as “state-sponsored terrorism.” Speaking about the unsavory results of the enforced bundh, he said that commercial establishments were not only forced to pull down shutters, but also stones were pelted on vehicles and public property was torched, adding that the people of the state had to suffer all day because of the chief minister’s arrogance.

K. R. Shriyan, the state secretariat member of the CPI (M), demanded on behalf of the party that Yeddyurappa must step down and said that the BJP simply talks against corruption, but turns a blind eye to what is happening in the state. Stating that part of the BJP-led state government comprises the mining mafia, he said that the government has gotten itself involved in all forms of corruption with even the chief minister favoring members of his family and defending himself by saying that all previous chief ministers have done the same.

CPI-M leaders Sunil Kumar Bajal and Vasanth Achary also participated in the protest.
