CM announces brand new pro - farmer scheme

Mangalore, Apr 19: DC Subodh Yadav informed reporters at a press meet held at DC Court that CM B. S. Yeddyurappa had announced a brand new pro-farmer scheme called Suvarna Bhoomi Yojana, which is scheduled to be launched in Karnataka on April 1. The state government has earmarked Rs. 1000 crore for this new project, he added.

Explaining the CM’s new scheme, he said that the scheme will benefit 10 lakh small and marginal farmers, who will receive Rs. 10,000 each to start horticulture, sericulture, natural, and dairy farming. In DK alone, 27,841 small and marginal farmers will be benefited. Of these, 5,568 are SC farmers, 2784 are ST farmers, and 19,481 farmers belong to the general category. Women farmers can avail of 33 percent reservation; however, if the number of applications from women farmers is less than the number of applications from women farmers, the male farmers will be considered for the benefits, he explained.

He also said that farmers involved in artificial breeding of fish must clean and recreate lakes to raise hybrid fish. They will also receive Rs. 10,000 each according to this new scheme, he said.

The DC also said that an order from the director of horticulture states that the programme must be successfully implemented by Taluk nodal officers. Around 6,960 beneficiaries will benefit from this scheme, he said. Of these, 1,393 are SC farmers, 696 are ST farmers, and 4,872 belong to the general category. These beneficiaries hail from Bantwal, Mangalore, Sullia, and Belthangady.

The scheme will benefit all small and marginal farmers holding less than 5 acres of land. They will receive financial aid of Rs. 10,000 each in two installments to raise crops in around 2 acres of land.
