Revealing his feelings about “Ijjodu,” Mr. Shaikh said that the film will be well-accepted by the intelligent and educated audience of South Kanara. Remarking that the people should first become a better audience if they want better films, he urged the viewers to encourage Mr. Sathyu to direct more films in the future by viewing “Ijjodu” in large numbers.

Speaking about his experiences while making the film, M. S. Sathyu said that he was afraid when he started making this film 12 years ago, but gained confidence when he saw the artistes in the front and the cameras behind. Remarking that remake movies in Kannada makes one feel sad for the lack of originality, he said that Ijjodu focuses on a social problem and offers just a sprinkling of dance, song, and drama.

Prof T. Shivasankar Murthy, the vice chancellor of Mangalore University, said that the university has conferred doctorates on several scientists and doctors and that M. S. Sathyu also received a doctorate from the university in 2005.

Shankar Pai and Devdas Pai, the owners of the theatre, felicitated M. S. Sathyu, G. S. Bhaskar, and Farooq Shaikh; and Ajith Kumar Rai Malady honored them with a memento depicting the popular folk art of Mangalore “Yakshagana.” Actor Aniruddha and cinematographer G. S. Bhaskar also addressed the gathering on the occasion.

Lion Patrick Patrao, Eswin Walter, Fr. Stanley D’Souza, and Dr. Jacintha D’Souza were the dignitaries on the dais. Sudheer Raj Attavar, lyricist compered the programme.
