Mangalore, Aug 6, 2013 : A jeweler from Durg in Chhattisgarh who was arrested in connection with the burglary of antique idols from the Siddantha Darshana Mandir of Moodbidri, has been produced before the JMFC Court at Moodbidri on August 5, Monday.
The arrested jeweler is Rajaji Subhash Santhati (47). He has been remanded to police custody till August 14. Rajaji is facing charges of purchasing the stolen idols.
Rajaji Subhash was arrested on the basis of the revelations made by the prime accused Santosh Das that he had sold the idols at the Anoopchand Jewellery store at Durg. Meanwhile, Rajaji getting hint that the police were searching for him was at large, but the police team was successful in arresting him at Raipur on August 4, Sunday. Police said the accused has been charged under Section 411 of IPC.
With this the total number of persons arrested in this case has risen to four. Apart from the prime accused Santosh Das, his wife Deepthimayi Patnaik and her father Digambar Mohanthi have been arrested. If the main accused is in police custody, the other two are in judicial custody.
The police, meanwhile are yet to recover the stolen idols. In the meantime, it has been learnt that the police may shortly arrest one Rajesh Badalkar who is an accused in the case and is facing charges of melting the stolen gold. The person from Durg in Chattisgarh has got himself admitted to hospital on the pretext of ill-health.
