Banyan tree falls on house, destroying it completely

Brahmavar, July 3, 2012 : A banyan tree fell on Krishni Poojarthy’s house in Uggel Bettu on the morning of July 2, Monday. Obviously, the heavy rains of the past few days, accompanied by strong winds, led to the uprooting of this tree.

The family is estimated to have suffered a loss of Rs. 2 – 3 lakhs.

The banyan tree was on government land, and owing to an ongoing land dispute with the neighbor, the tree could not be cut down. As a result, a family of seven people, who used to live in the house, is homeless. They have urged the government to provide financial assistance through any scheme or plan.

People’s representatives such as Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhat, TP member Veronica Cornelio, Uppoor VA Laxminarayana Bhat, and many others have visited the family.
