Bantwal, July 31, 2013 : A video footage taken by the videographer and a journalist has caught on camera an official of the check post at Ukkuda while he was accepting bribe from the vehicles passing through the check post to Kerala.
The video footage clearly showed an officer at the check post directing another officer to open the check post gate to collect money from a truck driver.
However, when they learnt that they have been caught on camera, one of the officials picked up a quarrel with the journalist and also warned of lodging a complaint with the Vittal police. The journalist, in the meantime informed the Vittal police who arrived at the spot. The official was later seen pressurizing the media man to end the case through a compromise.
It is a known fact that several trucks carrying goods illegally are allowed to pass through the check post without any hindrance after the palms of the officials are duly greased. However, no action has been taken against any official so far. Even 22 tyre huge trucks carrying load upto 30 tonnes pass through this route daily though they are not permitted.
Meanwhile a forest official said so far there has been no complaint about illegal activities in the check post. He at the same time assured to look into the latest case.
