Bantwal: Sub-Inspector found dead by suicide in rented house

Bantwal, Jul 21, 2025: In a tragic and shocking incident, a sub-inspector (SI) of Bantwal Rural Police Station, Keerappa (54), was found dead by suicide on Saturday evening.

Originally from Uttara Kannada district, SI Keerappa had been transferred to Bantwal from the Sirsi Police Station about five months ago. While his family remained in Uttara Kannada, he was living alone in a rented house in Bantwal, which belonged to a local gold merchant.

Concerns were raised on Saturday morning when he failed to report for duty and did not respond to phone calls. Later in the evening, his colleagues went to check on him and found the house locked from the inside. After receiving no response to their knocks and calls, they peered through a window and discovered him hanging inside.

The motive behind the suicide is currently unclear. The Additional Superintendent of Police visited the scene and reviewed the situation.

A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing. The incident has left his fellow officers and colleagues deeply shocked.
