Bantwal : Hundreds stage protest demanding justice in Sarapady GP vice president death case

 Bantwal, Oct 1, 2013 :  Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Taluk Office at BC Road on September 30, Monday to demand action against the  nursing home where Shakuntala, the Vice President of Sarapady Gram Panchayat recently died during delivery, allegedly due to medical negligence.

The  protest was organised by the Bantwal Samajika Nyayapara Horata Samithi  along with over 40 like minded organizations and leaders cutting across political lines.


 Almost all the speakers demanded action against the Saraswathi Nursing Home of  Bantwal and its doctors who treated Shakuntala. The participants included former MLAs Padmanabha Kottari, Rukmaya Poojari. ZP members Mamatha Gatti, Chandraprakash Shetty,  former ZP members Tungappa Bangera, Sulochana GK Bhat, TP President Shivappa Naika, Vice President Anand Shambur and several TMC members.


Hundreds of women too participated in the protest. Earlier the protestors also took out a procession from  BC-Road Kaikamba Polali Dwara. Later a memorandum was submitted to the government through the Tahsildar demanding action against the nursing home and maximum compensation to the family.


The Taluk Health Officer Dr Manjunath who was present assured to take up the issue at the district level Arogya Raksha Meeting to be held on October 9. He also said a full-fledged  labour ward would also be set up in the 100 bedded government hospital which is under construction in  Bantwal.
