8th Pingara Rajyothsava Award conferred on Billawa leader Jaya Suvarna

Mangalore, Nov 21, 2012 : Pingara newspaper’s 8th annual Pingara Rajyothsava Award 2012 was conferred on Jaya C. Suvarna, president of the All India Billawas Federation, at a glittering awards ceremony held at Town Hall on Nov 20, Tuesday.

Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore Diocese, presented the award and said that Mr. Suvarna deserves this award as he has selflessly worked for the welfare of the Billawa community besides serving society irrespective of caste, religion, community, and creed.

Expressing his appreciation of Pingara, the bishop said that editor Raymond D’Cunha has successfully opposed yellow journalism and rewarded deserving people by instituting the Pingara Award.

In his acceptance address, Jaya C. Suvarna said that everybody should focus on reaching the pinnacle of success without desiring rewards and awards. He also voiced his opinion that the three estates of democracy will become strong only when the media is strong.

The chief guest of the occasion was MLA Abhayachandra Jain. Expressing his appreciation of Mr. Suvarna, he said that Mr. Suvarna has been very successful in the banking sector, giving many people the opportunity to live in self-respect and dignity.

K. Laxminarayana Asranna, chief priest of Kateel Shree Durga Parameshwari Temple, delivered the presidential address. He said that Mr. Suvarna is well-known for his social welfare activities.

V. P. Lobo, president of T3, Urban Developers Limited, was also the chief guest of the event.

Among those who spoke on this occasion were Felix D’Souza of Mumbai and Shrikar Prabhu, BJP leader. The important people present were Roy Castelino, president of RACHANA; Dharmadarshi Harikrishna Punaroor; Fr. William Menezes, PRO of Mangalore Diocese; Dr. B. J. Suvarna, trustee of Kudroli Shree Gokarnanatheshwara Temple; Ramakrishna R., president of Press Club; and Raymond D’Cunha, editor of Pingara, among others.

An orchestra by Hussain Katipalla and his troupe formed the highlight of the event.
