24 Koraga families residing in forest land to receive title deeds

Mangalore, Nov 23, 2011 : DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda announced that 24 Koraga families, who are cultivating land in forest areas, will get title deeds if they submit applications right away. 

The DC was addressing leaders of the Koraga community and office bearers of NGOs in his office regarding giving ownership rights to members of the Koraga community on land that they have occupied for a long time. The DC said that the district has 857 Koraga families and 501 of them have their own land, 209 are cultivating government land, and 24 are cultivating forest land. Around 122 Koraga families are occupying other land. 

He said that title deeds have already been provided for 501 families and the other 356 families are yet to receive the title deeds. He urged the tahsildar to complete the work of issuing title deeds within one month. 

Further, the DC said that Koraga families living on government land are yet to receive title deeds and urged them to submit their applications at the earliest. He said that the application will first be verified, after which a letter will be submitted to the government for approval.  

The DC also said that 82.15 acre of land has been set aside for 73 Koraga families in the district. This list includes 29.92 acres for 27 families in Bantwal, 0.70 acre for one family in Sullia, 28.27 acres for 19 families in Mangalore, 16.93 acres for 21 families in Belthangady, and 6.33 acres for 5 families in Puttur. 

On this occasion, Koraga girls who are working as health motivators received honorariums. The DC also distributed cheques among families who own land and want to construct houses with government assistance. 

Assistant Commissioner Dr. Venkatesh and Additional DC Dayanand were also present.
