Mangalore, June 25: The BJP has successfully brought to an end an age-old quarrel between two groups of Muslims.
A particular Sunni group led by E. K. Aboobakker split into two factions after the expulsion of A. P. Aboobakker, popularly known as A. P. Usthad from the group. The rivalry, which originated in Kerala between the AP group and the EK group spread to undivided DK too.
Anwar Manippady, chairman of the state minority commission, stated in a press release held at Circuit House on Saturday, at which the Thwaqa Ahmed Musliyar, the qazi of Mangalore; Bekal Ibrahim Musliyar, the qazi of Udupi, and Aboobaker Musliyar, the qazi of Athradi were also present, that the age-old rivalry between the two groups will soon end with the formation of a new forum called Sunni Muslim Jamath Okkoota, which comprises mullahs from both groups.
Mr. Manippady claimed that he has successfully compromised between the two groups, adding that the purpose of forming a new group is to unite both groups under one umbrella. He said that the two groups had been engaged in disputes owing to misunderstanding and misconception although their religious beliefs were the same. He also said that the members of the newly formed Okkoota have unanimously elected him as its president owing to his sincere efforts in reuniting the two groups.
Manippady said that 17 members from each group have been appointed as members of the executive committee of the new Okkoota. The directors of the Okkoota are Koora Fazal Koyamma Thanga, the assistant qazi of Ullal; Thwaqa Ahmed Musliyar, the qazi of Mangalore; Bekal Ibrahim Musliyar, the qazi of Udupi; and Aboobakker Musliyar, the qazi of Athradi.
Manippady also revealed his intention of uniting other Islamic organizations such as Ahl-e-Hadees and Jama’th-e-Islami Hind.
