Padil resort attack – 12 arrested and remanded to judicial custody

Mangalore , July 2012 : The city police arrested four more people in connection with the resort attack case on July 30, Monday.

The arrested Harish and Chetan of Padil, Shailesh of Jalligudde, and Sunil of Thokkottu are believed to be members of the Hindu Janajagarana Vedike (HJV).

So far, the police have arrested 12 men in connection with the case and all of them have been remanded to judicial custody till Aug 13.

The police analyzed the video clip of the attack thoroughly to identify the attackers. Some of the attackers are not properly visible in the clip, and the police are trying to get information about them from those who are already arrested. According to police sources, 15 more people are involved in the arrest.

Some of the arrested were also involved in the pub attack of 2009.

The HJV activists broke window panes and stole money, jewelry, and cash from the students. The police have booked them on several counts including forcible entry, loot, attempt to rape, destroying property, and many others. A city crime branch team, under the leadership of Inspector Venkatesh Prasanna, tracked and arrested them.

On July 28, HJV workers barged into Morning Mist Home Stay, where 13 young people were celebrating their friend’s birthday, and assaulted them. Students and members of the public are outraged and have already raised their voices in protest. Political parties have condemned the attack, but the convener of HJV has refused to accept responsibility for the attack and has chosen to shift the blame on local people.

Meanwhile, the MCC has issued a notice to the owner of Morning Mist Home Stay for failure to pay commercial tax and comply with the rules.
