Prime Minister to Address Nation Today, then resignation to President

New Delhi, May 17, 2014: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address the nation today at 10 am before going to meet President Pranab Mukherjee to submit his resignation at noon, as the BJP-led NDA is poised to come to power.

manmohan_resin... The prime minister will chair his final cabinet meeting at 11.30 am and thank the ministers. He will then go to Rashtrapati Bhavan to submit his resignation.

"PM will make an address to the nation on Saturday. After EC announces results. Then thank his cabinet. Then go to meet the President to tender his resignation around noon," the Prime Minister’s Office said in a communication.

The President will host a dinner for the outgoing Prime Minister and his council of ministers on Saturday evening.

The end of Dr Singh’s 10-year tenure comes the day after a disastrous electoral performance by his party, the Congress, which was reduced to a double-digit figure in Parliament in the Lok Sabha elections.
