Luanda, Nov 9, 2025: President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Luanda, the capital of Angola, on Sunday, marking the first-ever state visit by an Indian Head of State to the African nation. The visit comes as India and Angola celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening ties with Africa and the Global South. During her stay, President Murmu will hold bilateral talks with Angolan President João Lourenço, address the Angolan Parliament, attend the country’s 50th Independence Day celebrations on November 11, and meet members of the Indian community.

MEA Secretary (Economic Relations) Sudhakar Dalela said the visit reflects India’s growing focus on deepening political, economic, and cultural partnerships with Africa. Discussions are also expected on projects like the translocation of cheetahs from Botswana under Project Cheetah.
Following her visit to Angola, President Murmu will travel to Botswana from November 11 to 13 to hold talks with President Duma Gideon Boko and address the National Assembly, focusing on cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and other key sectors.
