Gujarat, Oct 30, 2025: A shocking case of drunk driving was reported from Gujarat after a man was carried on the hood of a moving car for nearly 750 metres on the Modise–Lunawada highway on Tuesday night, with his motorcycle wedged in the vehicle’s front fender.
According to a Times of India report, the incident took place when Sunil Machhar and his father-in-law, Dinesh Charel, were returning home to Lakhanpur village in Dahod’s Fatepura taluka after finishing work at Nikoda village near Himmatnagar.
Machhar was riding the motorcycle when a car hit them from behind near Babaliya village. While Machhar was thrown off to the side of the road, Charel landed on the car’s hood — and the driver, allegedly drunk, continued driving without stopping.

According to the TOI report, Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Vasava stated that the driver continued for approximately 750 metres before being stopped by other motorists. A family travelling in another car witnessed the terrifying scene, recorded a video of the car pushing the motorcycle with Charel clinging to the hood, and then intercepted the vehicle.
Locals and commuters soon gathered at the spot, and both Machhar and Charel were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police recovered a liquor bottle from inside the car and detained the two occupants — Manish Patel, a teacher at Jarod Government Primary School in Mahisagar district’s Lunawada taluka, and his brother Mehul Patel, a farmer.
According to Vasava, the brothers were returning from Rajasthan after recruiting labourers. “We have written to the transport department to cancel Manish’s driving licence. We will also ask the education department to take action against him," the officer said.
