Mangaluru, Nov 4, 2025: Sullia MLA Bhagirathi Murulya alleged that law and order in the state has completely deteriorated after the Congress government came to power, with incidents of atrocities against women rising sharply.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP office on Monday, she said that more than 65 women have been murdered and over 1,300 rape cases have been registered across Karnataka. “Serious crimes such as the rape of a minor girl in Mysuru, a gang rape in Bengaluru, and assaults on college students have been reported. More than 100 young men have also been killed, while the Home Minister remains a silent spectator,” she said.

She further claimed that over 20 government officials have died under mysterious circumstances, and seven officers have committed suicide allegedly due to harassment from government commissions. During the state’s socio-educational survey, six persons reportedly lost their lives due to government pressure. More than 15 contractors have ended their lives, and some have even written to the President seeking mercy killing. Over five people have died due to potholes on state roads, which she described as deaths caused by government negligence.

The MLA alleged that over 750 mothers and 1,300 newborns have died in the state, while 5,000 cases of female foeticide have been reported without any serious government action.

She also criticized the Forest Department, stating it has completely failed to prevent man-elephant conflicts, which have led to more than 25 deaths. There have been four bank robberies recently, and Karnataka ranks No. 1 in cybercrime in the country. Bengaluru, she added, stands third nationally in total crime cases, which she sarcastically referred to as the “achievement” of the Home Minister.

Bhagirathi alleged that there were suspicions of Congress ministers’ involvement in the Mysuru drug factory case, yet no proper investigation has been conducted. She also claimed that a close associate of Minister Priyank Kharge is involved in a banned drug case, but the minister has remained silent. Congress MLA Veerendra Pappi has been arrested in a corruption case, and four MLAs have gone to jail in the past six months, she said, adding that corruption has increased under the Congress government.

She further alleged that cyber fraudsters have been targeting farmers’ bank accounts, with 8,620 cases registered in the last seven months. The government, she said, has failed to create awareness among farmers about cyber fraud.

According to her, Waqf Board properties have doubled in value and the government is providing special funds for fencing and other facilities for them, while no measures have been taken to repair Hindu temples. The Health Department, she claimed, has not appointed new doctors or nurses, leading to shortages of medical staff and medicines in hospitals.

BJP Mahila Morcha district president Manjula Rao, vice-president Vajraksi Shetty, Sandhya Venkatesh, Suma Arun, and Sushma Kotyan were also present at the press conference.
