Yellappa was murdered by the ANF, alleges CDRO

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Sep 15, 2012: The Co-ordination of Democratic Rights Organization (CDRO) has alleged that the Anti Naxal Force (ANF) has intentionally killed Yellappa alias Dinakaran during the recent combing operation in the forests of Subramanya.

Addressing reporters at a press meet held in Mangalore today, P. A. Pouran of the Kerala unit of PUCL, accused the ANF of intentionally killing suspected Naxals during combing operations. Alleging that the ANF conduct combing operation only to kill suspected Naxals, and not arrest them, he said that Yellappa’s death is cold-blooded murder.

Further, he said that CDROs fact-finding committee has studied the police FIR and interacted with villagers in the vicinity before coming to the conclusion that there was no firing exchange between the Naxals and the ANF personnel. Stating that Yellappa’s body had 15 – 20 bullet injuries, he said that not a single bullet was found in his body, which means that he was shot at close range. He said that the villagers in the vicinity did not hear any firing, adding that Yellappa was killed in cold blood.

Mr. Pouran demanded that a murder case must be registered against the ANF team, which was conducting the combing operation under the leadership of Deputy Commandant A. H. Shankaran, adding that the High Court must order a judicial enquiry under the leadership of a sitting judge. He also demanded that the ANF team must be suspended immediately and that combing operations must be stopped.

When a reporter wanted to know if the CDRO favors Naxals, he said that the CDRO represents human rights organizations and fights against atrocities of the state against the people. He added that the police are not required to use more power than required to apprehend people.

C. Sriram of PDF Karnataka, K. Kranthi Chaitanya of APCLC Andhra Pradesh, and P. B. D’Sa of PUCL were present.
