Mangalore, Apr 12, 2012: Since the district administration has stopped water supply to Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), the company has closed down temporarily.
MRPL received 5.5MGD from River Nethravathi daily, but the water level in the river and dams constructed across it began depleting at the end of March. In order to deal with severe shortage of water, the district administration reduced water supply to MRPL initially and on April 11 Wednesday stopped supplying water to the company completely.
The water available in the MRPL reserve can meet its water requirements for 1.5 days only. To deal with the situation, the company has shut down its second and third phase units immediately till the onset of the monsoon.
