Mangalore, Jun 17, 2013: Urban Development Minister Vinaykumar Sorake has directed the Health Department officials to visit the Central Market in Mangalore daily and inspect the conditions prevailing at the market notorious for its unhygienic condition.
Addressing a meeting of MCC officials on June 17, Monday, Sorake directed officials to work with greater dedication and ensure cleanliness in the city.
He also pulled up officials and questioned whether they control the contractors or vice versa.
The officials of the various departments briefed the minister on the projects pertaining to the respective departments.The ineffective solid waste management of the city came under criticism from the minister. The officials tried to explain that it was a failure not due to their inefficiency but due to the contractors.
The officials of Town Planning division informed that 174 cases of building violations have been noticed and that the owners of the buildings have been served notices.
On the fast spreading Dengue and Malaria, Sorake directed the officials to initiate adequate precautionary measures.
JR Lobo, MLA, Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, State Minister for Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister and also the District Minister-In-Charge B Ramanatha Rai,Joint Commissioner Srikant Rao, MLC Monappa Bhandary, Mangalore North MLA Moidin Bava were also present.
