Vedike questions Pejawar seer’s silence over Made Madansnana ritual

Mangalore Today News Network

pejawar swamijiUdupi, Nov 30, 2011: The Karnataka Rajya Hindulida Vargagala Jagrutha Vedike has warned Swami Vishwesha Teertha of Pejawar Mutt that they will organize a black flag protest against him if he continues being silent over the Made Madasnana ritual, which is held at Kukke Subrahmanya Temple.

Vedike President K. S. Shivaramu said that while the seer protests against atrocities against Dalits, he keeps quiet about a ritual in which Dalits also participate. He stated that the Vedike will have to believe that the ritual is held at the temple under his instructions and that unless he speaks against the ritual, the Vedike will continue to suspect that he is taking a double stand regarding Dalit issues.

Stating that it is shameful that such a superstitious ritual is being practiced in the home town of D. V. Sadananda Gowda, the chief minister of Karnataka, he urged the CM to ban this ritual, which is actually socially unjust, but is being continued in the name of tradition. He also questioned Vidya Prasanna Theertha Swamiji of Kukke for his support of the ritual, challenging him to continue supporting the ritual after first practicing it himself.

He criticized mutts, which continue sowing seeds of superstitioninstead of enlightening devotees and creating awareness among them.

The Vedike will conduct a meeting regarding steps to take against this ritual at Jala Darshini in Mysore on Dec 4. Prof. Aravind Malagatti, the writer, will preside over the meeting.
