Udupi artiste sets world record with 216-hour Bharatanatyam performance

Udupi, Aug 31, 2025: Bharatanatyam artiste Vidushi V. Deeksha from Udupi district has entered the Golden Book of World Records after completing 216 hours of continuous dance performance over nine days. She achieved the feat in Udupi on Saturday.

Deeksha, a native of Aroor village in Brahmavar taluk, began her performance at G. Shankar Government Women’s First Grade College, Ajjarakadu, on August 21 at 3.30 p.m. and concluded it at 3.30 p.m. on August 30 at the same venue. The marathon dance was organised by Ratna Sanjeeva Kalamandala, Manipal.

At a public felicitation held at the Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium, Ajjarakadu, Manish Bishnoi, Asia head of the Golden Book of World Records, presented the certificate to Deeksha in recognition of her achievement.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who attended the programme, praised her dedication and honoured her for the record-setting accomplishment.
