Udupi ZP, Karkala TP, Maravanthe GP bag Natl level PEAIS Awards

Udupi, April 6, 2013 : Udupi Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive officer Prabhaker Sharma has informed that the Udupi ZP, Karkala Taluk Panchayat and the Maravanthe Gram Panchayat in Kundapur have won the Panchayat Empowerment and Accountability Incentive Scheme (PEAIS), a national level award for the year 2012-2013.

The Award is given in recognition of accountability and work done at the district, taluk and gram panchayat levels. The Award presentation ceremony will be held on April 24 to coincide with the ‘Panchayat Raj Day.’

The awards carry a cash prize of Rs 40 lakhs, Rs 20 lakhs and Rs 14 lakhs respectively. Prabhaker Sharma said this is the time that a single district has bagged awards at the taluk and gram panchayat level. The selection was made after a thorough scrutiny by the Union Ministry for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj on the progress registered by the panchayats.
