Udupi, July 13, 2025: The ‘Kattige Muhurta’, the third preparatory ritual for the upcoming Paryaya of Shiroor Mutt at the Sri Krishna Mutt in 2026, was observed with traditional grandeur and devotion on Sunday.

Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt, who will ascend the Paryaya Peetha in January 2026, led the ceremony. The current Paryaya seer of Puttige Mutt and other senior pontiffs from the Ashta Mutts were present to mark the occasion.

The ritual began with Vedic chants led by priest Giriraj Upadhyaya under the guidance of Shiroor Mutt Diwan Udayakumar Saralathaya. Special prayers were offered to deities including Vittala, Chandreshwara, Ananteshwara, and Sri Krishna Mukhyaprana.

A ceremonial procession followed, where firewood was brought from Lakshmi Thota in Kalsanka in a decorated ox cart, hand carts, and by devotees on foot. The wood was ritually arranged in a chariot shape at the northeastern corner of the Madhwa Sarovara, accompanied by prayers.

As part of the Paryaya preparations, the Paryaya Reception Committee Office was also inaugurated by Vedavardhana Theertha Swamiji. The event was attended by MLAs Yashpal Suvarna and Gururaj Gantihole, former MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Udupi CMC president Prabhakar Poojary, and other dignitaries.
