State Malayali Christian Association demand CBI probe into Fr K J Thomas murder Case

Mangalore, Apr 24, 2013: Karnataka State Malayali Christian Association demands CBI probe into murder of Rev Fr K J Thomas, the Rector of St Peter’s Pontifical Seminary Malleshwaram, Bangalore.


Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on April 24, Wednesday A C Jayaraj, president of the Association said that Fr Thomas was a simple dynamic person with a good rapport with all other priests in the seminary. On April 1, he was found murdered within the seminary campus and the case was registered in Crime No. 157/2013 of Yashwanthpur police, Bangalore and so far there is no progress in the investigation of the murder, he said.

Jayaraj said that on Easter Sunday night, Fr Thomas was forcibly pulled out of the seminary and was beaten up by criminal in bricks and iron rods, killing him brutally.  


Though the individual or groups was being suspected as per the perception of general public, there were linguistic groups among Catholics and there had been conflicts, fights, protests etc. 


Jayaraj urged the police officials to arrest the culprits and bring them within the framework of the law and should ensure that they are penalized. But still there is no progress in investigation carried by the local police.


The seminary is situated within one kilometer range from the police station, along with top officials residing nearby the station. The police personnel’s can easily trace the culprits through the CCTV installed Yashwanthpur Junction or even by tracing the mobile and landline calls.


Revealing further details, he said that just one week before the murder, there was a theft of Sandalwood trees inside the Seminary inside the campus. During the murder the culprits had even vandalized the room of Fr Thomas and tried to break open the door of Fr Patrick Xavier. 


Hence the Karnataka Government must withdraw the investigation from State Police and hand over it to CBI, he urged.
