Mangalore, January 17, 2011: The Mangalore to Lakshadweep voyage services resumed after a week-long protest following the death of a crew member on duty.
Reportedly, Vyalar Ravi, the union minister for overseas Indian affairs, intervened and urged the crew to negotiate with their employers on Friday. A round of discussions followed after which the crew union decided to call off the protest and get back to work.
Two ships, which had been stranded at the Old Mangalore Port, set sail to Lakshadweep; and the hapless passengers heaved a sigh of relief.
