Rejuvenate Congress and defeat BJP - KPCC President Dr. Parameshwar

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Nov 30: In his inaugural address, delivered after inaugurating the Congress Party Workers’ Convention held at Town Hall on Nov 30, Tuesday, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Dr. G. Parameshwar said that the Congress should be renovated and brought to power once again and that the BJP, which is based on caste and religion, should be defeated.

Extolling the Congress party, he said that the party has worked hard for social welfare and for the protection of the poor, the unemployed, and the uneducated and has fought for their rights. Declaring that the principles of this party, which has saved the nation, are based on equality, he said that the Congress struggled for Indian independence and is now working for the development of the country. He cited the example of the five year plans, owing to which the country has witnessed progress in the areas of health, transport, and industry.

Lamenting over the fact that internal conflicts have tarnished the party’s image, he said that those who blame the Congress for the country’s lack of development are fools. Declaring that the Congress is synonymous with sacrifice, he spoke about Indira Gandhi’s sacrifices for the country’s welfare.

Criticizing the BJP government, he said that it is the worst government that the state has ever seen. Stating that distributing sarees is not an achievement, he said that the four budgets presented by the Yeddyurappa government so far have not revealed any substantial development schemes. On the contrary, industries and economy had reached their heights in India during the Congress regime, he declared, adding that the Congress is the backbone of all development that the country has experienced.

Speaking of his achievements as the minister for higher education, he said that he had granted permission for various medical, engineering, and other colleges to provide excellent opportunities for the youth. In contrast, the only achievement of Yeddyurappa appears to be denotifying illegal land.

Listing out the CM’s failure and shortcomings, he said that the Yeddyurappa government has not provided any permanent schemes for the people of Karnataka. Wearing a green shawl, the CM has done nothing but make false promises of good facilities, he said. Recalling the murder of a farmer, he criticized Yeddyurappa for failing to direct any investigation into the matter. Calling the CM “a cheat,” he said that the CM has cheated farmers in large numbers. Although Justice Santhosh Hegde has unearthed several cases of corruption, the CM has not dismissed a single minister, he said and pointed out that the CM has not even permitted the Lokayukta to conduct enquiry on land scams in which he is allegedly involved.

Speaking about the status of the Congress in DK, he said that the Congress enjoys a lot of popularity in Mangalore and several national and state Congress leaders hail from DK.

Motamma, the leader of opposition in the state legislative council, said that Indira Gandhi had provided several opportunities to women. She said that the party must protect its activists, and in turn, the activists must work for the development of the party. Stating that the CM has become cheap by distributing sarees to women, she said that it is the job of husbands to give sarees to women. Although the state government has announced development projects in the state, one must not forget that the money used for this work is sanctioned by the central government, she said.

V. S. Ugrappa, the former opposition leader in legislative council, said that the people of Karnataka can pull down the BJP government in just 24 hours; simultaneously, he urged the party not to forget that politics is a symbol of sacrifice. Listing the sins of the CM, he said that the CM has recently sanctioned Rs. 500 crore for the RSS. Although the CM is involved in various land scams, the RSS is silent on the matter, he said, adding that the RSS ought to pressurize the CM to conduct investigation into the land scams if it has any respect for its ideals.

Manjula Naidu, the president of Karnataka State Women’s Congress Committee, said that the BJP would have sold the nation if it was in power from the past 60 years.

Senior Congress leader and president of the event Janardhan Poojary said that he is proud of Justice Santhosh Hegde, who hails from DK. Expressing his wholehearted support to the Lokayukta, he said that the swamijis of today are busy organizing publicity campaigns for the BJP and that they are all dacoits. Openly claiming that he had trained Ugrappa, he also asked Ugrappa to inform the public who had trained him. He also criticized MLA Ramanath Rai for walking across the stage during his speech and spoke against the habit of the Congress leaders of arranging lunch for ministers. Pointing out that Ugrappa and Motamma were engaging in conversation during the speech, he criticized Parameshwara for using the mobile phone on the dais.

Dr. G. Parameshwar felicitated the newly appointed block Congress committee (BCC) presidents from DK. MLA Ramanath Rai delivered the welcome address.

Vinay Kumar Sorake, the former MP; MLAs Abhayachandra Jain and U. T. Khader; Mohammed Masood; Moideen Bawa; Mamatha Gatty; Ivan D’Souza; Ashraf; Vasanth Bangera; Chandrashekar; Ibrahim; Bonadala Jagannatha Shetty; Arun Coelho; Prabhakar Siriyan of Bharat Seva Dal; Suresh Ballal; and other Congress leaders were on the dais.

Previously, a procession was held from Jyothi Circle to Town Hall, with hundreds of Congress activists participating.
