Mangalore, Apr 16, 2013: Deputy Governor of Reserve Bank of India Dr KC Chakrabarty participated in a interactive meet organised by the Reserve Bank of India at the Auditorium of the Corporate Office of Corporation Bank on April 16, Tuesday. The objective of the programme was to listen to the grievances of the public with regard to instances of deficiencies/problems while dealing with banks.
Speaking on the occasion, Chakrabarty said it would not be apt to blame the Reserve Bank whenever any bank failed to ensure good service to the customers.”Customers should either demand proper services from the bank or leave the bank," he said.
The public can also bring to the notice of the RBI through the Ombudsman if at all they have any problem pertaining to the policies of some bank, he suggested and added the RBI constantly monitors banks to ensure they adhere to policies.
He further said customers having any complaint should first approach the bank and that they can contact the Ombudsmen in case the bank fails to respond within 15 days.
The RBI Deputy Governor also heard the grievances put forth by customers of various banks and clarified doubts.
Ajay Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of Corporation bank, Jayaram Bhat, CEO of Karnataka Bank, AC Mahajan, MG Sanghvi, Chairman and Managing Director of Syndicate Bank, H S Upendra Kamath, Chairman and Managing Director of Vijaya Bank, Palaniswamy, banking ombudsmen for Karnataka were among others present on the occasion.
