Mangalore, 25, 2013: The inauguration of the procession carrying the statue of former Kerala chief minister R Shanker was held at the Sri Gokarnanatha Temple at Kudroli on August 25. The procession of the statue to be taken for installation to Tiruvananthapuram was inaugurated by senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojari.
Shanker was not only a great politician, but also a great educationist, lawyer, social reformer and the former general secretary of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) and Sree Narayana Trust. He had also started 14 higher educational institutions across Kerala under the aegis of Sri Narayana Trust as early as 1950.
Janardhan Poojari in his address said the administration under the leadership of Shanker was considered one of the best in Kerala and also in the whole of the country. He also followed the principles and ideals of Sri Narayana Guru in true spirit, Poojari said.
Ramesh Chennithala, Kerala Pradesh Congress President who was the chief guest said the Yatra carrying the statue will reach Tiruvananthapuram on August 31 wherein Congress President Sonia Gandhi will unveil the statue. He also described the former CM Shanker as a towering personality of Congress and the state of Kerala.
Sharath Chandra Prasad, General Secretary of Kerala Pradesh Congress, Ramanatha Rai, DK District in-charge Minister, UT Khader, Health and Family Welfare Minister, Vinaykumar Sorake, Udupi District Minister, Mohideen Bava, MLA, Ivan D’Souza, KPCC Secretary, Ibrahim Kodijal, District Congress Interim President and others were present.
