Mangalore, Nov 28, 2011: Dr. Christy Leon Fernandez, the secretary to the president of India, expressed his concern about the condition of minorities, during his meeting with Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza on Nov 27 Sunday in the Bishop’s House.

He urged minorities to remain alert to laws that might be against the interests of minority communities.

The bishop honored Dr. Christy on behalf of the Christian community of Mangalore.

PRO Fr. William Menezes; Marcel Monteiro, the president of Rachana; Roy Castelino, the president of Konkani Prachar Sanchalan; and Christian leaders Melwyn P. Noronha, Walter D’Souza, and Fr. Rithesh Rodrigues were also present.

About Dr. Christy
Dr. Christy, who originally hails from Cochin, has been in the top bureaucratic post in Rashtrapathi Bhavan since July 2007 immediately after the current president took charge of the office. He was the tourism secretary in the central government for 4 years before being appointed as secretary to the president. 

Although he was due to retire in June 2009, he was requested by President Prathiba Patel to continue as her secretary till she completes her term in mid-2012.
