Mangalore, June 19, 2012: Addressing reporters at a press meet held in his office today, SP Abhishek Goyal said that the police have arrested seven people, including 3 women, in connection with theft cases.
The arrests were made by 3 police teams formed by the SP. The seven were arrested near the Bantwal to Kadur highway near Charmady in Belthangady on June 4. The arrested are N. Lokesh (24), N. Basavaraj (23), Saroja (44), Rathna (35), Kavitha (28), Ganesh (25), and Shrinivas (25). All seven are from Tamil Nadu.
The SP said that they had robbed Bharath Singh, who was travelling from Dharmasthala to Ujire on May 30, of his ATM card, mobile phone, and Rs. 6,640. They were also involved in theft cases across Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
When a reporter asked about the case of Meera Balakrishnan, who was murdered in 2008, the SP said that the police have arrested five people in connection with the case, but have handed over the investigation to the CID.
He also said that the police are currently investigating the case of the murder of a woman and her children in Puttur, allegedly by the man of the house.
