Mangaluru, June 4, 2023: As the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers progresses with the establishment of the plastic park project in Ganjimutt, Mangaluru taluk, the Plastic Manufacturers Association has appealed to the government to lower the price of industrial plots. Currently, the cost stands at Rs 1.2 lakh per cent of land.
During a visit to the project site on Saturday, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel informed reporters that the project will occupy 104 acres and require a budget of Rs 62 crore. The infrastructure will accommodate 52 industrial plots, with 39 entrepreneurs expressing interest in setting up their units. Kateel stated, "The plastic park will feature roads, the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) Institute, separate hostels for men and women, a guest house, cafeteria, warehouse, and water supply and sewage system. The funding allocated for the park’s establishment consists of Rs 31 crore from the central government and an equal amount from the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB)."
Upon completion, the project aims to create job opportunities for the local population. "Numerous industries have already shown enthusiasm in establishing their units within the plastic park. Infrastructure and building development works have already commenced. The CIPET institute will provide technical support and training for the required workforce in the industries. Plastic-based industries can commence production hassle-free at the park. It is anticipated that the plastic park will attract investments amounting to Rs 6,000 crore, creating direct employment for 1,000 individuals and over 10,000 indirectly," Kateel added. He further mentioned that a foundation stone laying ceremony will take place soon, with the project expected to be completed within a year.
President of the Canara Plastic Manufacturers Association, BA Nazeer, emphasized the need for a reduction in land prices from Rs 1.2 lakh per cent to Rs 50,000. "Considering the land value in the area, the KIADB should reconsider the exorbitant cost of industrial plots. Furthermore, the allotment process for these plots should take place in Mangaluru rather than Bengaluru," Nazeer stated. Meanwhile, members of the Ganjimutt gram panchayat demanded the identification of separate land for waste management.
