Padubidri: Thieves burgle shop,loot valuables

Udupi, Mar 31,2013: Gold jewellery and cash all worth several lakhs of rupees were stolen from a shop at Palimar in Padubidri on the night of March 29, Friday.
The thieves gained entry into the Dhanalakshmi Traders owned by Dinesh Prabhu, by breaking open the shutters in the rear. They even broke open the cupboard to steal gold jewellery weighing 15 sovereigns and a cash of Rs 1.95 lakhs.
Dinesh who along with his family had been to a relative’s house on Saturday, had as a safety measure, shifted all gold and cash in the house to his shop. He came to know of the theft only when the shop was opened on Saturday morning.
It is suspected that someone who was closely watching the movement of Prabhu, might have been responsible for the theft.
A dog squad and finger print experts have been pressed into service. Senior police officials too visited the spot. Investigations are in progress.
