Mangalore, Apr 12, 2012: The National Women’s Front (NWF) will organize a statewide public awareness campaign against dowry from April 15 to May 21.
Fathima Naseema, the state general secretary of NWF, said at a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands on April 12 Thursday that the NWF aims to empower women educationally, socially, culturally, economically, and politically.
Stating that the NWF is an organization of women for women, she said that the country has definite laws against dowry, but this has not put an end to the social evil of harassing the bride and her family for dowry.
The organization will start its campaign on the slogan “Varadakshine Mohigalu Samaja Drohigalu” on April 15 in Mysore with several women’s union representatives participating. Shahida Tasneem, the national president of the NWF, will inaugurate the event and Shaheeda Aslam, the state president, will preside over the event.
The campaign will comprise public meetings, seminars, district conventions, rallies, counseling, discussion, cultural programs, and others.
Sayidha, Zareena, Sameena Malar, and other NWF members were also present.
