Media must strike balance between freedom and responsibility: Sagarika Ghosh

Udupi, Aug 25, 2013:  Sagarika Ghosh,Deputy Editor of CNN-IBN has stressed the need for the media to strike a balance between freedom and responsibility.

Interacting with students of Manipal School of Communication on August 24, Saturday, she said  a journalist has the utmost responsibility to maintain high credibility at a time when the credibility of journalism is questioned.

 

Sagarika Ghosh also stated that politicization, corporatization and trivialization were detrimental to journalism and affected the growth of the media. She was also critical of sensationalizing of news by the media.

She also said atrocities on women can be prevented when there are women friendly police stations and courts attached to it which will dispose  cases pertaining to atrocities at the earliest. She  described the JS Verma Commission  report on safety of women as path breaking.

Varadesh Hiregange, Director of Manipal School of Communication was also on the dais.
