Manipal: Auto men go on flash strike opposing ‘harassment’ by cops on pretext of probe

Manipal, June 25, 2013: Autorickshaw drivers of Manipal, on June 25, Tuesday, staged a flash protest in front of the Manipal police station accusing the policemen of dragging innocent autorickshaw drivers to the police station on the pretext of enquiry, just because the culprits in the gang rape of a Manipal student had used an autorickshaw.

 

The striking auto men said they would extend their full co-operation to the police department in arresting the culprits whoever they are. At the same time they resented the police action of knocking at the doors of autorickshaw drivers during night time and then taking them to the station, in the process bringing in fear in the minds of their families.

Stating that such sort of probe had  made the public view autorickshaw drivers with suspicion, the protestors urged the police department to arrest  the culprits immediately.
