Mangaluru Congress stages protest over delay in opening Jeppu Mahakali Padpu underbridge

Mangaluru, Sep 30, 2025: The Mangaluru South Block Congress Committee staged a protest condemning the Railway Department for delays in making the Jeppu Mahakali Padpu underbridge operational, despite construction having been completed nearly four years ago.

The protesters alleged that although the work was completed, the underbridge has not been opened for public use, causing severe inconvenience to motorists. Complaints had also been raised about unscientific construction and waterlogging at the site, but the department has allegedly ignored them.

The protest was held near Canara Pinto Garage at Jeppu Mahakali Padpu. South Block Congress ward presidents, committee office-bearers, women leaders, former corporators, and members of Congress frontal organizations participated.

Addressing the gathering, Congress leader Ivan D’Souza said that the project, which should have served as a major gateway to Mangaluru, has been left unused due to the Railway Department’s apathy. He pointed out that during the busy Dasara season, motorists are forced to take alternative routes, leading to traffic jams across the city. If opened, the underbridge would provide a crucial entryway for vehicles coming from Kerala and Ullal into Mangaluru city, he added.
