Mangaluru: 78-year-old man arrested after absconding for 55 years in a warrant case

Mangaluru, Sep 22, 2025: Police have arrested a warrant absconder who had been evading court appearance for the past 55 years. Officials said this is the oldest such case detected in Dakshina Kannada district. The arrested accused is now 78 years old.

The accused has been identified as C.R. Chandran (78) from Malappuram district, Kerala. He was wanted in connection with Crime No. 32/1970 registered at Puttur Rural Police Station under Sections 154, 155(2) of MF Rules 1969 and Section 86 of the MF Act (LPC: 2/1972).


Absconded man arrested


Police said Chandran had been absconding since 1970 without appearing before the court. Recently, he was traced and arrested at Pullikal in Kozhikode district, Kerala, and was produced before the jurisdictional court.

According to police, this is the oldest pending warrant case solved in Dakshina Kannada district.
