Mangaluru, Jun 1, 2026: In a major enforcement drive aimed at preventing road accidents and ensuring compliance with traffic safety regulations, Mangaluru City Police conducted a special operation on Saturday. A total of 1,372 two-wheeler riders were booked and fined for riding without helmets and violating one-way traffic rules.

As part of the special drive, fines amounting to ₹4,63,500 were imposed on 1,050 riders for not wearing helmets. Additionally, cases were registered against 322 riders for driving in the wrong direction on one-way roads, and fines totaling ₹1,61,000 were collected, police officials said.

Traffic violation

Expressing concern over the rising number of road accidents involving two-wheelers, City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the operation was undertaken to address the issue. He noted that many such accidents result in severe head injuries, fatalities, or life-altering trauma.

The Commissioner pointed out that ignoring helmet regulations and riding against traffic on one-way roads often leads to head-on collisions. Such violations not only endanger pedestrians but also disrupt the smooth flow of traffic.

“The special enforcement campaign was launched to strictly implement traffic rules and create greater public awareness about road safety,” he said.

During the operation, police carried out checks at major junctions across the city, along National Highways 66 and 169, as well as in suburban areas and accident-prone locations. Legal action was taken against all violators.

Police indicated that similar intensive enforcement drives will continue in the coming days to improve traffic discipline and curb rule violations across the city.
