Mangalore, June 8, 2013 : It seems conmen are on the prowl in the city since some days. After a couple of looting cases by imposters posing as cops, in a latest case, a man from Delhi was robbed of a cash of Rs 85000 at the busy MG Road on June 7, Friday.
One Mohammad Afzal from New Delhi who was working on a project at NIT-K was waiting in a car near the PVS when another person had been to a nearby building. Soon, a stranger approached Afzal saying his currency note was lying on the ground. Just as Afzal got down to pick the note, another stranger opened the car doors and escaped with Afzal’s briefcase.
It is learnt, the briefcase had a cash of Rs 60,000, passport and credit/debit cards apart from other documents. Soon Afzal also received an SMS from his bank saying Rs 25000 has been debited from his account. Thus he had lost Rs 85000 in a matter of no time.
Kadri police have registered a case and are conducting investigations. Afzal is said to be the son of an MLA from Delhi.
