Mangalore Police Commissioner speaks on Mani murder case

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Feb 7, 2012: Referring to the recent Manikanta murder case, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that there isn’t much the police can do when people start murdering one another for silly reasons.

It may be recalled that Manikantha aka Mani (22) a bus cleaner by profession, was stabbed to death by a group of people at Chelyaru. The police arrested 8 people in connection with this case, but the main accused Hemanth Madhya (20) evaded arrest. Shortly thereafter, Hemanth was found dead in a forest in Janthabettu, en route to Soorinje, allegedly murdered by Mani’s friends or relatives to take revenge.

Commenting on the case, the police commissioner said that police security has been beefed up in the area to prevent the incident from turning communal. He said that extra policemen were deployed to maintain peace at Mani’s funeral and many others have been deployed to the spot where Hemanth was found dead.

Speaking on the occasion, ACP (Mangalore North) M. Puttamadaiah said that Santhosh, Sandeep, Vasanth, Pradeep, Niranjan, Brijesh, and Janardhan have been arrested for murdering Manikantha and that Nagesh, Ganesh, and Santhosh have been arrested for murdering Hemanth.

The Mangalore North police have also registered cases in this regard, he added.
