Mangalore : Catholic Sabha to hold multi lingual carol singing competition

Mangalore, Nov 27, 2012 : Catholic Sabha of Mangalore Pradesh and St. Vincent Ferrar Church in collaboration with Karnataka Christian Education Society of Balmatta will organize Christa Jayanthi Gaanalahari 2012, a multi lingual carol singing competition on the grounds of St. Vincent Ferrer Church at 5:30 p.m. on Nov 30, Dec 1, and Dec 2.

 

 

Anil Lobo, president of the Catholic Sabha (Valencia unit) told reporters today that the carol singing competition will be held for the first time in three languages—Kannada, English, and Hindi—for people from Udupi, Mangalore, and Kasargod on Nov 30, Dec 1, and Dec 2 on the grounds of the church.

Further, he said that 60 teams have registered for the competition. The winner will get a cash prize of Rs. 15,000 while the first and second runners-up will get Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 7,000, respectively. Besides, three consolation prizes of Rs. 4000 each will be given away.

He said that Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore Diocese, will preside over the event while M. N. Rajendra Kumar, chairman of SCDCC Bank, and Manohar Prasad, chief of the news bureau of Udayavani, will be the chief guests for the English carol singing competition on Nov 30.

Rev. Lawrence Mukkuzhy, bishop of Belthangady, will preside over the Kannada carol singing competition on Dec 1 with DC Channappa Gowda, Elias Fernandes of Four Winds Mass Communication, and KPCC Secretary Ivan D’Souza as the chief guests.

Former bishop of the CSI, Karnataka Southern Diocese will preside over the Konkani carol singing competition on Dec 2 with J. R. Lobo, ex municipal commissioner; Louis J. Pinto, ex president of Mandd Sobhann; and Nigel Pereira, president of Catholic Sabha, as the chief guests.

Dr. Honey Cabral, Rev. Bonaventure Nazareth, and Flavia Sequeira were present.
