The girls had come out to wash their hands after taking dinner. The culprit had scaled the hostel walls and begun pelting stones at the girls. He also chased the girls who ran into the hostel to protect themselves. One of the girls fell down while running away and lost consciousness. A woman guard, who had witnessed the entire incident, called the police, but somehow the media arrived before the police did

Official sources in the security guard company visited the hostel after getting the information and told the police that the person who had entered the hostel belongs to their company. The police conducted a search of the hostel, found the man hiding inside the room, and arrested him. The man, however, informed the police under interrogation that he had been appointed to guard the hostel.

The Kadri police told Mangalore Today that they have not registered any case against the man because they did not receive any official complaint and that the Bunder police have successfully dealt with the issue. The Bunder police washed their hands of the matter by saying that no such incident has taken place.
