MCMC to keep tab on ads by political parties, candidates: DC

Mangalore, April 7, 2013: Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta has informed that all election  and campaign related advertisements  will have to be produced for screening before the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC), by the parties and candidates.

Speaking to reporters at the District Information Office on April 7, Sunday, the DC said the media content will be constantly monitored. The election related ads cannot appeal to voters on caste or community lines and unsubstantial claims can also not be made. The ad related material should be cleared by the Committee and details of the expenses also need to be provided to the Committee, the DC said.

Advertisements certified by the MCMC only can be published, he made it clear. A media surveillance centre set up at the District Administration office will function round the clock and will monitor media content published /telecast in newspaper and TV channels, he said. Paid news will also be strictly monitored, the DC said.

He said no banner or publicity material relating to elections can be put up even on private buildings and added during the poll day candidates cannot make vehicle arrangement for the convenience of voters. The administration will have to be informed in advance if the  candidates or parties want to bring people in buses or other vehicles for their programmes.

MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar was also present.
