Konkani Photogenic and Konkani World Beauty Contest held

Mangalore, Nov 29: A Mr. and Miss Konkani Photogenic Contest and a Mr. and Miss Konkani World Beauty Contest were organized by Mandd Sobhann as part of the 25-day cultural extravaganza World Konkani Cultural Convention. All the four above-mentioned contests were meant only for unmarried Konkani speakers in the age group of 18 – 25.

Ashwin Preetham D’Costa and Melita Jean Pinto won the Mr. and Miss Konkani Photogenic titles. Clement Fernandes and Allien D’Souza were crowned Mr. and Miss Konkani World, respectively.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Konkani World Beauty Contest

A Mr. and Miss Konkani World Beauty Contest was also organized on the same occasion. While 11 contestants participated in the Mr. Konkani World contest, 13 contestants participated in the Miss Konkani World contest.

The Mr. and Miss Konkani World Beauty Contest had 2 rounds—Traditional Round and Western Round, along with a question and answer session. The judges were Kasturi Shetty, the vice president of Shree Devi Fashion Designing School; Shanta Mohan, the owner of Vokhal Bridal Collections; and Jeune Lobo, the lecturer of MIFT.

Clement Fernandes of Taccode, who won the Mr. Konkani World crown, and Allien D’Souza, who won the Miss Konkani World crown, were crowned by H. D. Kumaraswamy, the state president of JD(S) in the presence of Dharme Gowda, the former MLA.

The first and second runners up in the Miss Konkani World category were Jolita Rebello and Snehal Lobo, respectively. The first and second runners up in the Mr. Konkani World category were Vernon D’Souza and Vikas Concessao, respectively.

Mr. Kumaraswamy was felicitated for his role in introducing Konkani as an optional language in school syllabi.

Stany Alvares delivered the welcome address; Santhosh D’Costa was the comperer; and Denis D’Silva delivered the vote of thanks. Mandd Sobhann President Louis Pinto and Ronald Colaco were also present.

Konkani Photogenic Contest

The names of the winners, as announced at Kalaangan on Nov 28, Sunday, are Ashwin D’Costa, Clement Fernandes, Melita Pinto, Prince D’Almeida, Clement Fernandes, Rashmi Rebello, and Teena Sharal D’Sa. The first runner up of the Miss Konkani Photogenic Contest is Rashmi Rebello, and the second runner up is Teena Sharal D’Sa. The first runner up of the Mr. Konkani Photogenic Contest is Clement Fernandes and the second runner up is Prince Jason D’Almeida.

The awards were conferred on the winners by H. D. Kumaraswamy, the JD(S) leader.

Youth Fest Convener Denis D’Silva compered the programme.
