Konaje youth arrested for blackmailing young women

Udupi, Dec 5, 2013: A  youth hailing from Konaje has been arrested by the Manipal police on December 5, Wednesday on the charges of luring girls into his trap and then blackmailing them using their obscene video clippings.

The arrested youth is Ilyas(24). His modus operandi was as follows. Ilyas had taken a flat at Perampalli on a monthly rent of Rs 35000  by giving his name as Rahul Shetty. It is learnt, he used to develop contacts with young girls on social networking sites after introducing himself as Rahul Shetty. He used to then meet them, promise to marry them and take them to his flat or some lodge.

There, he used to  shoot  obscene videos and  later  demand cash and gold  after blackmailing the girls.

However, all such activities took place in  a hush hush manner until now came to light when a young woman from Kemtoor  who was cheated by the youth  divulged the matter to her parents who duly approached the police.

It is learnt, Ilyas had  taken  the girl to a lodge  where  he  had shooted her obscene video and had then placed forth a demand for 10 sovereigns of gold. Fearing dishonour, the girl heeded. However when he demanded more, she  brought the matter to the notice of her parents.

The police then trapped Ilyas after directing the girl to ask Ilyas to come to a particular spot.

There is information that Ilyas might have cheated at least  twenty girls in this manner.

Hindu outfits stage protest:Meanwhile, the activists of Hindu organisations including Bhajrangdal and VHP staged a protest outside the Manipal police station  and demanded stringent action against Ilyas.

Investigations are underway.
