Mangalore, Aug 12, 2013: A man who had cheated some women after posting matrimonial ads in newspapers has been arrested by the police in Mangalore.
The arrested man is Nagaraj Shetty alias Rajanna(40) from Gauribidanur in Kolar district. The man however resides in Shira of Tumkur is a widower and has a young daughter.
It is learnt, after the death of his wife a year ago, he began the trick of cheating gullible women through matrimonial ads. He used to loot them of their gold after promising to marry them and after fixing the marriage in some temple. He had thus tricked a woman from Hubli too nearly one and a half years ago.
But when he tried the same trick in Mangalore, he was caught. It is learnt, he had come in touch with a widow in Mangalore through the matrimonial ad and had decided to marry her on August 15 at the Adyar Dhoomavati Temple. As per the plan the woman had arrived with all her gold worth Rs 11 lakh and the two had gone to several temples and had finally arrived at Adyar Dhoomavati Temple. He asked the unknowing woman to first enter the temple and when she went inside he escaped with her jewels.
On a complaint lodged by the woman, the police led by Inspector Ravish Naik swung into action and arrested him within one day and recovered the stolen gold.
