 Kasargod, Aug 3, 2013 :Several people residing in the vicinity of the shoreline  at Bandyodu Muttam Berike have been shifted to safer places following gas leakage from one of the three containers that washed ashore recently.

That the container was leaking came to the notice of the locals on August 2, Friday morning. Soon the police were intimated and the police and fire service personnel who rushed to the spot confirmed the gas leakage. They immediately took precautionary measures and erected a fencing around the container so that people did not come closer to it.


The locals were shifted to safer places and all necessary measures were taken to prevent gas leakage.

The huge gas containers had washed ashore at Berike on July 23. The experts from Mumbai who had inspected the tankers and reported to the district administration that the tankers were empty. Now with gas leakage reported from one of them.The district administration has directed the authorities to keep an eye on the rest of the containers.

 These gas containers are said to be from a vessel which had capsized deep sea off the coast of Oman on  June 26.
