Kasargod: Bijapur woman raped and murdered; lover missing

Kasargod, Aug 4, 2013: A woman has been found strangulated to death in a quarters at Hidayatnagar in Uppala. She has been identified as Hulugamma (40) of Hingahalli in Bijapur.  Preliminary investigations have revealed that she was raped and then murdered. Her body was found in a nude state.

One Santosh (42) of Bijapur with whom she was staying is missing and the suspicion is that he had murdered her. Hulugamma used to do coolie works in Manipal and was staying in a rented house at Uppala with her lover Santosh after she got a cash of Rs 50,000 by selling her property in her hometown.

 

Police suspect that she was murdered for gain by her lover. Her neck had marks of strangulation, possibly with a saree. The room was found locked from outside. It was only when a foul smell began to pervade the area that the neighbours grew suspicious and the murder came to light when the door was broke open.

Police who found a mobile number in a medicine slip found in the house, called that number when her son Mounesh received the phone. Her family in Bijapur arrived and identified the body. The body was then taken to Periyaram Medical College for a post mortem.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that her ailing husband   has died on Friday night on hearing the news of her murder.
Investigations are in progress.
