Kanajar celebrates Confraternity Sunday

Kanjar, November 29: The parish of Kanajar celebrated its parish feast and inaugurated its renovated church on Nov 27 – 29.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hore Kanike

The members of Kanajar parish offered Hore Kanike or head-load offerings on Nov 27 as part of the inauguration of the renovated Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Kanajar. The people, who were wearing traditional clothes, arrived with offerings on the grounds of the parish school, where they were offered the traditional mixture of water sweetened with jaggery. Various places, individuals, and organization such as Kanajar, Palli Mangaldi Mutt, Kowdoor, Nakre, Moodubelle, and others had sent in Hore Kanike, which was ceremoniously accepted at Kanajar Sauhrda Bhavan.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A short formal function was held, after which delicious food was served to at least 1,200 people present on the occasion. President of Palli Gram Pachayat Praveen Pandy expressed his happiness to see the unity of the people. Capuchin Fr. Valerian D’Silva conducted the prayer service.

Confraternity Sunday

On Nov 28, the Confraternity Sunday was celebrated in preparation of the parish feast of Kanajar, along the theme “through the Eucharist let us strengthen the bond of parishioners.” Rev. Fr. Joseph Martis, the rector of St. Joseph Seminary, Jeppu, and Rev. Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha, the parish priest of Kanajar, celebrated the mass with Bro. Richard Lobo SVD assisting.

The donors were honored with candles by Fr. Alwyn D’Cunha. Fr. Joseph Martis delivered the homily in which he urged all parishioners to realize the worth of service and its role in strengthening bonds within parishioners.

After the Eucharistic adoration, a ceremonial procession made its way from the parish hall, through the streets, and wound up at the parish hall. The benediction followed this event, during which all the heads of the 14 wards of Kanajar parish presented a huge cake baked in the shape of the Eucharist. This cake was later shared among the sick and elderly parishioners after Holy Mass.

Around 1000 people participated in the celebrations, at the end of which soft drinks and cakes were distributed among all.

Bishop inaugurates renovated church

The Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Rev. Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza will inaugurate Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Kanajar on Nov 29, 2010 at 9:45 a.m. This will be followed by a felicitation programme and lunch at the Kanajar Sauharda Bhavan, presided over by the bishop.

The guests of honor will be Rev. Dr. Baptist Menezes, the Episcopal Vicar of Udupi district; Dr. V. S. Acharya, the minister for higher education, planning, and statistics and muzrai; Mr. H. Gopal Bhandary, the member of the legislative assembly of Karnataka; Rev. John A. Barboza, the vicar forane of Karkala deanery.
